Sanford Women's Hosts Women's Health Week
MAY 11, 2009
Physicians and staff with Sanford Women's are embarking on a week-long national women's health challenge which empowers women to make their health a top priority. National Women's Health Week is May 10-16 and is coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women's Health. With the theme "It’s Your Time," this nationwide initiative reminds women that taking care of themselves is essential to living longer, healthier and happier lives.
Throughout the week, communities, businesses and health organizations like Sanford Women's will work together to educate women about the steps they can take to improve their health mentally and physically as well as lower their risk of certain diseases by making screening appointments. Through the Women's Challenge website, women are able to set exercise and nutritional goals and track their exercise. To encourage other women, Annette Bosworth, MD and Allison Wierda Suttle, MD, FACOG with Sanford Women's are taking part in the National Women's Challenge.
"As a participant in National Women's Health Week, I can lead by example and show other women how to be proactive about their health," said Dr. Bosworth.
"The best advice I can give women to stay motivated for the week and thereafter is to make a list of all of the reasons why you want to take the challenge and look at that list often," Dr. Wierda Suttle added.
National Women's Challenge
Women interested in participating in the National Women's Challenge can register at www.sanfordwomens.org beginning on Sunday, May 10. The team from Sanford Women's will be available to help get women signed up from 4 – 7 p.m. on May 11-13 at the Sanford Health kiosk in the Caribou Coffee wing at the Empire Mall.
